The Barn End

Laid out over 3 floors, this 150m2 holiday home or short-stay accommodation is all white painted wooden beams, walls and , in some cases, floors! The rooms are full of light and you will find ample space to spread out and relax. Two bedrooms – 1 on the first floor, one on floor two – plus a fully sprung comfortable sofa bed gives ample and flexible sleeping for up to 10, although it is ideally suited to 6-8. Even though it is our biggest home, it still feels cosy and relaxing for just a couple. Please do be aware though, that there are 2 flights of stairs. All stairs are fully protected with new baby gates, and cots or junior beds can easily be fitted into either of the bedrooms.

As with all of our houses, we include a fully fitted kitchen, with oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge with freezer, and all place settings, pots and equipment that you would expect to find. In addition, we have coffee makers, free wi-fi, Blue-Ray movies (with an extensive library of films to choose from), cable TV and our luxurious organic Swedish toiletries from L:A Bruket.

Outside we have built a wooden deck, for you to enjoy outside dining or ‘fika’, and there is shared space behind the farm, close to the woods, with a grill spot and picnic benches, and children’s play area.

The Meadow Barn

At 60m2 our smallest barn is full of character, with numerous changes in levels (as it has been created out of a number of seperate utility buildings from the original period of the farm) and a quirky blend of materials – white painted floors of both wood and bricks, old farm signage cut down to make the bathroom shelves, original barn doors and twisting wooden stairs to the attic bedroom.

Again, we have a fully fitted kitchen (with all the appliances and extras that our other apartments have), TV, movies and wi-fi. One bedroom – the smaller of the two – is located on the ground floor, close to the toilet & shower room, whilst the other in an attic room with exposed ceiling beams.

Decorated in restful white and natural wood Scandi-style, and grey furnishings, this cosy home has been loved by many. A second door opens out to your own little garden area, which overlooks the fields and on a fine day it is the perfect spot to enjoy your breakfast, coffee or perhaps a peaceful spot to read.

You are also welcome to make use of the shared space, at the rear of the farm buildings, where you can find a grill area, picnic benches and children’s play equipment.

Skåne & Ystad – The location in Sweden

Sandy beaches – Naturals Lakes – Local Food – Activities – Österlen – Ystad

Located on a quiet road, 7km north of the popular tourist destination that is the historic coastal town of Ystad, you will find a large group of traditional farm buildings with a low rise farmhouse. This is Red Bird Farm! Painted in the traditional red protective paint, with white woodwork trims, it stands out from the landscape of wide arable fields, bordered by a small woodland of silver birch and spruce trees.

The farm was originally built in 1850, it has been a number of years since that it was a working farm. Yet we do recognise it’s heritage, with the holiday homes named to reflect their previous uses, and in the conversion of them from their original buildings we have been sympathetic in that original features have been retained and old materials re-purposed in the new rooms.

The setting is perfect for a peaceful stay, allowing one to recharge and become fully rested. The light is beautiful, the air calm and the beds so comfortable! Check out our guest reviews!

Perfectly placed to be close to the region’s extensive sandy beaches and glorious coast, or for visiting many of the large natural lakes that are situated in the area; the Fyledalen area of an ancient river valley that is famously home to the greatest number of birds of prey in Northern Europe, and the numerous small vilages with beautifully well preserved churches, historic grand houses & castles, and a considerable number of important nature reserves. The great outdoors is just waiting to be explored!

In addition, there are many villages & small towns that offer a wide variety of unique boutiques, cafes and specialist food producers, combined with various artists studios, historical sites or other points of interest can make a visit truly memorable.

If food is your thing, you wont be disappointed in the region of Ystad and the Österlen! With so many independent businesses offering apple products, raps oil, chocolate, bakeries, fish, berries, ice cream, artisan cheeses & yoghurts, champagne, alage, jams & honey, herbs & spices – all local grown and packaged, sold either through their own stores where the natural ingredients are grown (and often with a cafe, sometimes being able to take a look at production) or in the major food shops in the area. We also offer a selection in our very own boutique here at Red Bird Farm, from foods for gifts or something to enjoy whilst you are staying here with us.

For children, and families of mixed ages, we are perfectly located for many places that offer all kinds of fun and interest! Aside from the nature that is here to explore – with quiet, easy roads to cycle and walk on – we also have our unique ‘water cycles’ to hire on the lakes (fantastic fun for teenagers), a great animal park which allows you to get close and learn about all the Nordic animals (no lions & tigers here!) all in a wonderful natural setting. Just an hour’s easy drive or bus ride. Just a ten minute drive away there is Skåne’s largest water & outdoor fun park; Glimmingehus castle that often has days full of history to experience, or head towards Malmö. Outside the city there is a complete viking village museum, or local nature reserve where in winter you can spot seals. In Malmö itself there are plenty of options for families and visitors of all ages and interests. Of course, we are also very close and easily connected to Copenhagen – well worth an inclusion in your travel plans.

We have spent many years living in the region, and are very happy to furnish you with plenty of tips and advice on finding those things that will make your holiday memorable, and perfect, just for you. We are always on hand to help.
